A Decisive Third Quarter Seals the Win
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers captured their first victory of the 2026 season on Thursday, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 24-16 at AT&T Stadium. The game’s turning point arrived in the third quarter when Tampa Bay exploded for 17 points, shifting momentum from a tightly contested first half into a decisive lead that Dallas could not overcome.
Bucky Irving was the engine of the Buccaneers’ offense, carrying the ball 21 times for 165 yards and scoring a touchdown. His performance provided the ground game needed to complement rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels, who managed the offense with precision. Daniels completed 19 of 25 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown, avoiding the turnovers that plagued his counterpart.
Scoring Progression and Key Plays
Dallas took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a Javonte Williams one-yard rush. However, Tampa Bay responded before halftime with a five-yard pass from Daniels to Irving, tying the game at 7-7. The Cowboys regained the lead just before the break when Brandon Aubrey kicked a 41-yard field goal, making it 10-7 at halftime.
The third quarter belonged entirely to Tampa Bay. Emeka Egbuka broke through for a 14-yard rush touchdown, giving the Buccaneers their first lead of the game. Irving added another score on a one-yard run, extending the advantage to 21-10. Chase McLaughlin capped the quarter with a 41-yard field goal, pushing the lead to 24-10.
Dallas attempted a late rally in the fourth quarter. Dak Prescott connected with George Pickens on an 18-yard pass. Despite failing a two-point conversion attempt, the touchdown brought the score to 24-16. The extra point was not part of this specific scoring play description, which ended at six points for the touchdown itself, leaving the final margin at eight points.
